General tips

  • Don’t put Trauma/STICU/PICU back to back (believe us, it happened to some of us this year and it’s a real test to your sanity)

  • EMS/Admin and Elective are the lightest rotations, but be careful planning vacations during these blocks because you are the backup CCC call. Vacation is only guaranteed in the ED blocks

 Elective

  • Popular ones: pharmacy, tox, MICU (if its available), ultrasound

  •  You are second backup CCC, expect 3-5 CCCs

  • You will be expected to rearrange your elective schedule to help fill CCCs

  •  It is feasible to put a long weekend on this block, but remember you’re backing up for the CCCs, and your elective should still be a real rotation

ED

  • You will now have float shifts built in

  • In January you will go down to 17 shifts a month

  • 4 weeks of vacation in these months

  • In addition to keeping track of your list, you should keep an eye out on the other teams and take their patients if necessary

    • If you see another team has a sick patient, do what you can to cover for them in the mean time

    • Do not expect any float help

  • If an intern has a code 44 and no 3rd year has shown up, make sure to get over there and help out
