Welcome to the Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Advocate Christ Medical Center.
Our Primary Mission is to provide state-of-the-art, patient-focused emergency care. We value the diversity of our medical staff, our patients, and the communities we serve.
The 3 Goals of the Residency are (1) to provide outstanding clinical training, (2) to prepare our residents for any type of fellowship or EM job after residency that they aspire to, and (3) to make the 3 year experience enjoyable for our residents. Established in 1977, our residency program has a long tradition of training superior emergency physicians who are well prepared to practice successfully in any environment.
We are Most Proud of the broad spectrum and high acuity clinical training our residents receive. Advocate Christ Medical Center/Hope Children's Hospital is a Level I Trauma Center, Pediatric Critical Care Facility and a tertiary referral center for pediatrics, pediatric and adult cardiology,cardio-thoracic surgery, orthopedics and invasive neurologic procedures. The Emergency Department treats over 100,000 patients per year. Our residents manage challenging emergent clinical problems during every shift they work.
Our Diverse and Dedicated Faculty provides outstanding bedside teaching for our resident. With 140 hours of EM faculty coverage per day, all resident cases are supervised by attending EM physicians. Residents in our program receive exceptional training in ultrasound applications at the bedside by emergency medicine faculty who lead the Ultrasound Fellowship Program. Residents can practice invasive procedures and manage high acuity clinical scenarios risk-free under the supervision of highly experienced EM faculty in the Simulation Learning Center. Our research program gives resident physicians the opportunity to translate clinical questions into research projects, and to present their results at national and international scientific assemblies. Faculty members involved in research present numerous didactic sessions discussing evaluation of the medical literature and evidence based medicine.
The 5 Faculty Members Leading the Program are all strong resident advocates. We listen and respond thoughtfully to residents' ideas and concerns. We strive to create a supportive environment that enables residents to reach their fullest potential. If you have a specific goal after residency, we are committed to optimizing your training experience to help you achieve your goal. We all understand the need for residents to balance the many demands of residency with time for rest, loved ones, and fun.
Our Residents and Faculty are close knit. We believe the better the faculty knows a resident's abilities, the more they are able to individualize their teaching and supervision for that resident. The camaraderie among residents produces life-long friends. When our graduates reminisce about their residency experience, they say their training was filled with fond memories and amazing tales, all underscored by excellence in clinical emergency medicine.
