· NCCU
Schedule
- 7a-7p, weekdays only
- 2 weeks
First Day: Show up at 7am to the NCCU. This is located on 4 south. You can take the C elevators up to 4 then walk across the bridge and follow the signs. NCCU room 4 is the charting room where signout is held. Someone will give you a list. After signout, split up the patients with the NPs and get ready for rounds.
Rounds: The nurses lead rounds on NCCU so basically all you do is stand there while they present. Depending on the attending, you'll be asked for your opinion, or basically just if you agree. Bring something to do because rounds are usually over by noon and most of the patients are really boring. The best thing you learn in NCCU is how to get a better read of head CTs so make sure you can see the attending's computer when they are reading scans. You round again at 5pm for some reason, these are usually pretty quick. Try to make it apparent you have nothing to do after these end so you can get sent home early.
Procedures: There's the occasional central line or art line to do. Sometimes the NPs will ask you to proctor a central line or art line, we recommend saying no to this. That's not your job.
Attendings:
Al Wafai - very nice, struggles with some of the finer concepts of medicine. Doesn't realize you want to leave early unless you directly ask him.
Duran: ...
Sweis: Incredibly smart, great personality. Tailors her teaching to make it relevant to you. Awesome at reading imaging and teaching you to read it with her. Usually sends you home as soon as rounds are over.
Trauma attendings cover every once in a while.
