Program Overview

Thank you for your interest in the Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Advocate Christ Medical Center! ACMC is a 749 bed Level 1 Trauma Center located in Oak Lawn, IL, just southwest of Chicago.  It ranks nationally in many specialties and is known across the country for excellence in teaching and research.  The Emergency Department is known nationwide as one of the highest volume and highest acuity centers in the country, with approximately 120,000 patient visits and more than 4500 trauma activations each year.

Our Curriculum

We offer an intense 3 year curriculum packed with 24 months of emergency medicine, 3 months of electives, 2 months dedicated to trauma and a longitudinal pediatric emergency medicine experience in our brand new Pediatric Emergency Department.  In addition our residents rotate through our MICU, Neuro ICU, PICU and Trauma ICU gaining a wide range of skills in the resuscitation and management of the critically ill patient. Residents choose electives ranging from pharmacy, trauma, toxicology, EMS, ultrasound, and administration to other custom made electives including a brand new international medicine elective in Tanzania.  Christ boasts the longest running ultrasound fellowship in the country and currently staffs 10 US fellowship trained attendings.  Our residents typically complete approximately 300 scans in their time, including a 2 week dedicated individual training session w/ a US trained fellow. Research

Each year, Christ EM residents and faculty continue to produce ground-breaking research.  This year, posters were presented at ICEP, ACEP, and CORD just to name a few.. In addition, as one of the top medical centers nationwide, ACMC has been enrolled in many major clinical trials.   Each resident is required to complete a scholarly project in their time here at Christ.  These projects range from randomized control trials to textbook chapters to attempts at streamlining hospital policy.  Click HERE for more information

Our Faculty

When you train at Christ, you won't just become an outstanding emergency physician, you'll also inherit a nationwide network of alumni who are dedicated to helping out Christ grads.  Our residents and faculty form a close knit family that lasts far beyond their training.  We have alumni scattered over 38 states, with 60% in clinical practice and 40% in academics.  Among our ED faculty, we boast 10 US/RDMS physicians,  3 EM/ICU trained docs and 3 clinical toxicologists. In addition our Pediatric ED is staffed by 7 Peds EM trained physicians in addition to our normal emergency medicine staff.  Our residents and attendings are assisted nearly 24/7 by our excellent staff of emergency medicine trained clinical pharmacists.
